“Refranes en Textil,” which translates to Sayings in Textile, is a series of works that explore type and textile practices. “Sayings” refers to the colloquial phrases Nicaraguan people say. This series includes abstract work as well as representational work. It contains pattern making, color blocking, and typography. My main objectives for this project were to learn, explore, and push the relationships between textiles, collage, and typography. Especially to explore Nicaraguan sayings and their derivation.
Que se Rinda Tú Madre (Let your mom surrender) comes from a revolutionary-led time in Nicaragua. This exploration became a type of building project with the use of beads while still maintaining the textile aspect.
